Hans On Organizing Kitchen Storage Tips:
Hang it on a wall
S hooks can be used to hang pans and gadgets from a Plastic coated wire grid, which is
lightweight and easy to install.
Magnetic strips can be purchased to hang knives and other metal gadgets that are used frequently.
Shaker peg racks are available, and often purchased by the inch. They come in many styles and can
be used to hang mugs, potholders, and other frequently used, lightweight items. Many styles
include a shelf, which can be used to place salt & pepper, spices, toothpicks and other small items.
Place your favorite plates on the shelf for a decorative touch.
A plastic shoe bag with pockets can save space in a crowded kitchen by allowing you to store foil,
wax paper, coupons, baggies and other miscellaneous kitchen items.
Hang it from the ceiling
To keep your pots and pans out of the way, but within reach – suspend a pot rack above the stove.
If you are really creative you can turn a ladder upside down and use it to hang pots and pans from,
with chains and S hooks.
Maximize your cabinet space
Use stepped shelves to store spices, so they are easy to locate and don’t get hidden behind other
spices on the shelf.
A turntable is a wonderful space saver. It can be placed in the back of a cabinet to provide easy
access to items used less frequently. I find turntables useful for bottles of condiments that do not
need to be refrigerated. I also use stackable wedge shaped containers, to store spices in as well
as toothpicks, food coloring, cake decorating tips and any other small item you may have in your
kitchen.
Add space maker shelves to utilize the height of your shelf and store small plates over larger plates,
etc.
Drawer organizers are a must to separate kitchen gadgets in a drawer so they can be located
easily. I store all of my spatulas in one container, measuring spoons in another, and other like
items together.
Stand your cookie sheets and other pans on their edges to save room
Store any dishes or equipment that you only use once a year on shelves in the basement to free up
space in the kitchen
Create a pantry in the basement if your kitchen is small, to store extra supplies of canned and paper
goods
Dealing with junk drawers
Dump everything out.
Throw away the trash.
- Ask yourself why you are keeping something – if you don’t know, GET RID OF IT!
- When you come across something you don’t recognize, if you can’t figure out what it is or
what it is for, GET RID OF IT!
Find the items that should be somewhere else and put them there.
Group the items to be kept into categories and consider putting them in drawer organizing trays, for
an organized junk drawer!
Miscellaneous Items
Keeping your kitchen tidy while you are cooking helps you to be organized in the kitchen. You can
hang a bag on the faucet in your sink to toss peelings, wrappers and other garbage into while you
are cooking to keep your counters clean and minimize the number of trips to the garbage can.
